Knee Pain: Northwood Chiropractor Explains

At Northwood Chiropractic Oxford, we prioritize getting to the root cause of knee pain. Knee pain is a very common issue, and one that we as Chiropractors are very well equipped to address. This is because we take a holistic approach to the issues.

What Causes Knee Pain?

The knee is a simple hinge joint with two primary movements, flexion and extension. We often find that knee problems rarely occur in isolation and is itself rarely the sole cause. This is why it is vital to look at the surrounding areas. The lower back, hips, and ankles typically play crucial roles. As explained in my video, poor hip control leads to poor knee alignment during walking and running. An issue in the lower back that puts pressure on a nerve can be the cause of that poor hip control. Every step taken with a poorly controlled knee can cause injury to specific areas, potentially worsening over time if left unaddressed. This is why it is crucial to assess the function of each part of the chain to truly get at the root cause.

Common Knee Conditions

We regularly see people with various knee conditions, including:

  • Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS)
  • Jumper's Knee (Patella Tendonitis)
  • Knee Arthritis
  • Osgood-Schlatter Disease
  • Bakers Cyst
  • Meniscal Tears
  • Ligament Tears

While each condition has different outcomes, they often stem from underlying mechanical and neurological dysfunction. Using the gold-standard Gonstead system, we can identify and address these root causes, before they lead to persistent or worsening problems.

How Can Northwood Chiropractic Help Knee Issues?

At Northwood Chiropractic, we take a comprehensive approach that sets us apart. We're highly trained to:

  • Detect and correct mechanical dysfunctions
  • Analyze the entire kinetic chain from spine to ankles
  • Provide precise, targeted corrections to the mechanics
  • Address underlying movement pattern issues.
  • Take detailed structure x-rays (if clinically justified)
  • Develop prevention strategies

Our detailed analysis ensures we understand exactly how your knee functions within the complete movement chain, allowing us to deliver more effective, lasting results.

You don’t have to be in pain to get checked by a chiropractor.
The primary purpose of Chiropractic is to check and restore function to your spine and nervous system — not just to treat pain when it arrives.
Think of it like a tooth cavity — it develops long before it causes pain. Spinal misalignments work the same way. Getting checked early means getting ahead of the problem.
Don't wait until it becomes painful. Take control of your health now.
