Does a Chiropractic adjustment hurt?
Rarely. It's often more of a strange feeling if you've not had an adjustment before but rarely does it hurt. It isn't uncommon however to feel some soreness afterwards in a similar way to post gym exercise. If you have any concerns about this, please do get in contact and we'll be more than happy to explain this further.
What is the cracking noise heard during a Chiropractic adjustment?
The noise heard with an adjustment is simply gas bubbles popping inside the joint. When the joint is moved, it increases the space inside the joint. When this happens, the pressure in the joint diminishes, creating a gas bubble which then rapidly pops. This isn't normally painful nor is it always heard. It is simply a by-product of the adjustment.
Can I visit a Chiropractor without pain?
Absolutely. A lot of people see us a little bit like a dentist, coming in regularly to get their spine and nervous system checked to ensure optimal function. This not only reduces health issues later on down the line, but ensures that the body operates at it's very best. The first step is to get checked to see if there is any underlining issues that need addressing.
The simple answer is yes. All forms of intervention carry risks however due to our thorough examination approach and the nature of Chiropractic, the risks of serious harm from Chiropractic is very low. It's not unusual to experience soreness after receiving care, however this is usually mild lasting no longer than 48 hours. Please do contact us if you are concerned at all.
What is Gonstead Chiropractic?
Gonstead Chiropractic is known for it's in-depth assessment process and specific adjustments. The Gonstead philosophy is that the better you can define the problem, the better the results with less intervention required. This is why the Gonstead system of Chiropractic is often referred to as the gold standard of Chiropractic care.
What can I expect on my first visit?
The primary aim of the first visit is to find out how we can help you best. We therefore start by taking the time to understand your symptoms and health goals through taking a history. A thorough assessment of how your body is functioning is then performed and then if X-rays are required, this will be discussed with you at the end of this visit. Your results follow up visit can then be arranged which is typically when you will receive your first Chiropractic adjustment to start you on the journey of better health.
What should I wear for my first visit?
We have gowns (for woman) and shorts that you can wear during your exam at the clinic. If you would prefer to wear your own shorts, then please feel free to bring loose shorts (e.g. sports shorts) with you to your first visit. It is also advised to wear loose clothing.
Is Chiropractic safe for everyone (children & elderly)?
Yes. We see people from children to the elderly. We adapt the way we adjust depending on the person in front of us. For example, for children and the elderly we typically don't need to use as much force. On the rare occasion that Chiropractic isn't right for you, we will be able to tell you at the end of your first visit after we've done a thorough assessment.
Can Chiropractic help with muscle problems?
Absolutely. Muscles are very good at recovering, when they don't, normally it's because of an underlying issues. This is where Chiropractors can help by finding the underlying root cause of the muscle problem and then correcting it at it's source. This is what gives long lasting results.
