If you've ever found yourself scrolling through social media and suddenly a chiropractic video pops up where someone is being twisted, yanked or cracked in a dramatic way, you're not alone. These videos are everywhere. They often look loud, intense and sometimes a bit frightening. Many of them are designed to go viral and get views, not to show what proper chiropractic care truly looks like.
Letโs talk about it.
Why These Videos Look So Aggressive
๐ฅ
Many of the popular adjustment clips you see online are filmed specifically to capture loud cracks and pops. Microphones are placed right next to the joints to make every sound even louder. The bigger the reaction, the more dramatic the clip and the more likely it will go viral.
This can give the impression that chiropractic care is about force and shock value.
But that is not how safe and effective chiropractic care is done.
Techniques like the Y-strap or ring dinger, where the head is pulled to make the entire spine crack at once, can look impressive on camera. But they are not what we do, and they are not representative of thoughtful, clinical chiropractic care.
Real Chiropractic Is Careful, Specific and Personal
๐ง ๐ค
At our clinic, every patient has a thorough examination first. We want to understand your unique body, your pain, your posture and how your spine and nervous system are functioning before we make any adjustments.
When we adjust the spine, we focus on one joint at a time, stabilising the rest of the spine. Due to the force being focused, amount of overall motion occuring in the spine is low but effective. The aim with every adjustment is to apply the least amount of force possible whilst achieving the maximum effect. This allows your body to respond in the safest and most effective way possible. Gonstead Chiropractic goes one step further too in that we focus on reducing the amount of rotation that is applied to the spine. This is because this is the least helpful force to put into the spine and thus makes the adjustment safer.
There is no rushing.
No guessing.
No dramatic pulling or forceful twisting.
We Communicate Every Step Of The Way
๐ฃ๏ธ
Before we perform any adjustment, we explain what we are doing and why. We make sure you feel calm, comfortable and confident. There are no surprises.
If something doesnโt feel right for you, we adapt it.
There are many gentle ways to adjust and we tailor everything to your needs.
Your comfort and safety are always the priority.
Itโs Okay To Be Nervous
๐
If those videos have put you off chiropractic care, that is completely understandable. They can be intense and misleading. The truth is, a proper adjustment should feel relieving, controlled and supported.
Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how gentle it actually is.
What Our Patients Says
We've seen many patients who hav been nervous. Here's what Paul had to say about his experience with us (copied from our google reviews):
"Iโve had on-and-off back pain for almost two years now. Iโve tried different treatments, including an MRI, physiotherapy, and acupuncture.
This was my first time visiting a chiropractor, and Iโll admit I was a bit nervous at first โ I thought it might be like those trendy online videos where every joint gets cracked without any real scientific benefit.
However, Dr. Stevenโs technique was completely different. His approach is precise, methodical, and focused on the long-term realignment and adjustment of the spine โ not just quick fixes.
My back pain is gone, and I feel straighter and better aligned than ever."
